I used to have a blog called Cryptochrome that has it’s own domain but I decided to cut my hosting to save money. That came after I created this and I’ve moved posts back and forth until it is what you see now. Many of the posts are messed up with missing images. Others have duplicates. Fixing everything is just too annoying. So what did I decide to do?

Redo. Everything!

Yes. I’m crazy. Totally crazy. I could just fix things. That would be easy. Right? Yet, I decide to go the harder path. Well, I have my reasons, one of them being that the name “FischSauce” doesn’t really fit the content of this blog. It makes it sound like a tasty food blog which it isn’t. Another, fixing stuff isn’t really as easy as it sounds. I have to find all the missing images all over again, find links that don’t work anymore, find everything that doesn’t fit. With some of my posts having so many pages worth of text it just isn’t easy at all.

So, yes, I already created a new WordPress blog and I’m working on the move.  This blog will remain as it is until I’m done with the new blog. I’ll announce it when it’s ready for public viewing.

On a side note, I may convert FischSauce into a real food blog. Doesn’t that sound awesome? It should!

The Music and Video apps rely on media scanning to detect media files on the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The same is true with other Android devices in the market. For the most part, this wouldn’t cause much problems, at least not until we decide on installing games or audio recording apps that have or record audio in formats which the media scanner consider to be music. That said, it can be really annoying and in some cases embarrassing to suddenly hear your recordings play while listening to music.

Fortunately, there’s a way to fix this which I’ve done successfully on the Galaxy Tab and this is done by simply adding a .nomedia file to the directory that you wish to exclude from media scan. It should work with other Froyo (Android 2.2) devices but there are some risk of data loss as I have not tested it on others so heed the following warning.

Warning! Data loss and deletion of media files is possible when adding a .nomedia file to a directory that has already been scanned. Although I have not encountered the problem with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, I won’t be responsible if you lose data because of following the instructions below. Backup the data in the folder before performing my instructions. You have been warned.

With the warning in place let us proceed. I shall post Windows specific instructions on this article as I do not have a Mac to play with. If you wish to have Mac specific instructions, please send me a Mac. Nah, just kidding! Mac users may comment on how to do this and I’ll add it to the post with credits, of course. But if you wish to send me one, a Mac Mini will do.

First off, connect your Galaxy Tab or any other Android device to your PC via USB and mount it as a removable storage device. If you don’t know how to do this on the Galaxy Tab, go to Settings > Wireless and Network > USB setting then pick Mass storage. The method may be different for other devices.

Open Notepad from the Start Menu. We will use Notepad to create the .nomedia file. Without typing anything go to File menu > Save or simply hit CTRL+S on the keyboard. This will open the Save dialog box. Navigate to the drive letter given to your device and find the folder that you wish to exclude. Type “.nomedia” without the quotes on the File name text box and pick All Files (*.*) on the Save as type drop-down list. Hit on the Save button. Just copy the created .nomedia file to the other folders that you wish to exclude.

Media scan will immediately start when you unmount your device. Check your Music or Video app to see if it is working as expected. You may also wish to check the excluded folders with a file manager to make sure you did not lose any files. If you did everything as per my instructions then you’re good to go! Enjoy!

I am one of the lucky 20 guys chosen to be the Ambassador for the Samsung Galaxy Tab here in MENA (Middle East and North Africa). I don’t have my Samsung Galaxy Tab yet but it should be on its way to my loving arms by now.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a tablet device with a 7″ screen running Google Android under its skin. I haven’t seen one up close but I’ve always thought that it looks like a stunner. I really like how Samsung decided to contrast the colors of the front and back of the Galaxy Tab and I’ve heard and read a lot of good things about it. I can’t wait to get my hands on my own unit!

Anyway, this blog’s contents – at least the one before this – were moved many times. Many things have changed: new location, new addons, new themes. Some photos are missing from the move and I don’t know where they are! I have to reupload new images again. What a bother!

It may take a while but I’ll do my best.

Many use the Mozilla Firefox browser and I’m one of them. I like the fact that there are lots of add-ons and themes to customize how Firefox behaves and looks but sometimes Firefox can go mad like a fox with rabies!

A while ago my system crashed because of a new application which eventually and totally messed up my Firefox installation. Uninstalling that specific application didn’t fix it most likely because the problem was caused by the crash rather than the application itself. I struggled with disabling and uninstalling add-ons but none seemed to work until I thought of uninstalling Firefox completely. Yet I didn’t. Why? Because it was possible to reset everything like nothing ever happened and how to do that is what this post is about.

Oh, by the way. Before I proceed please take note that this article concerns Firefox 3.0-3.6. Any differences between the two will be noted. Images are currently missing as I’ve moved this post from another blog. I’ll fill them up again when time allows.

Resetting Firefox is easy. Much easier than building a time machine to go back and prevent Firefox from getting messed-up in the first place. You shouldn’t worry. It’s really a cinch to do.

To do the reset you’ll have to run Firefox in Safe Mode . As quoted from the Mozilla support site:

Safe Mode is a special Firefox execution mode that can be used to troubleshoot issues in Firefox. In Safe Mode, you can reset some settings or disable add-ons that might be the source of the issue. By comparing Firefox behavior in normal mode to its behavior in Safe Mode with various items disabled, you may be able to diagnose issues.

You will have to turn off or exit all instances of Firefox first to make it possible to run in Safe Mode. Learn how to execute Safe Mode on the next page.

Sony states that it isn’t a problem with the PSN network and is instead being caused by a broken internal clock in pre-Slim models – a leap year bug they say. Some of the “Phat” or “Fat” PS3s (as most people call them) worked but most are having problems.

Stay updated through Sony Playstation’s Twitter page. Lets cross our fingers for an immediate fix and hope for the best.

On the brighter side of things, LG has revealed the very first Windows Phone 7 device. It is still a prototype and isn’t polished yet but it’s a good sign, at least for me. You can see the device on this Engadget exclusive. I’ve attached a photo for your (or my) viewing pleasure!

Windows Phone 7 devices are probably going to be expensive given the minimum hardware specifications that Microsoft wants to implement but, by doing so, they would be able to guarantee that performance and user experience will be very much alike no matter which new phone we take in the near future. That said, I’m still very excited on testing the platform myself and hope to get my hands on one soon.

I was randomly surfing the web today when I stumbled upon a link in PaulSpoerry.com that pointed me to JSNES – a JavaScript-coded NES (that’s “Nintendo Entertainment System” if you’ve never heard of it) emulator written by Ben Firshman. Brings back the good ol’ gaming memories when I was still a little kid!

By the way, it works best in Google Chrome.

I’ve been using Windows Mobile 6.5 for a while now and though I am used to the tedious interface that it provides, I’m totally attracted to the new, crisp and minimalist user interface that Windows Phone 7 boasts. I’ll post more info about it when I learn more but check the official Windows Phone 7 Series page for an online demo of its features or Gizmodo’s “Windows Phone 7 Series: Everything Is Different Now” page if you’re too curious to wait.

Update: Did I mention that the name Windows Phone 7 Series is just lame? Hmmm… I guess not.
